Core Assets are involved in services for children and families, consultancy and resourcing for the social care sector both in the UK and internationally.
Core Assets needed to spread their ‘Be-Alert’ message to adults who come into contact with children but are not necessarily education professionals.
The organisation also needed a learning management system that was flexible, easy to use and cost effective to host this and other courses on.
Solution – e-learning safeguarding course
The ‘Be Alert’ initiative encourages people to become familiar with the signs of child abuse and neglect. The safeguarding e-learning course was created to help spread this message as far as possible, and give people the confidence to make informed decisions about incidents of neglect and abuse.
For this sensitive subject, Learning Pool** used an illustrative style to approach this serious content with tact. The illustrated characters still represented real emotions and elicited an emotional response from the audience, but it provided appropriate distance from real images that could have proved troubling.
This course showed adults how to spot different types of abuse and neglect in children in an engaging, memorable and emotional way.
“For the safeguarding course we’ve had several people say that it’s fresh and engaging, and a different way and a different approach to safeguarding.” – L&D Manager, Core Assets
Solution – Totara Learn
Totara’s flexibility meant that after initial research into various learning management platforms, Core Assets chose to use Totara Learn with Learning Pool to provide all the unique customisations the company needed.
“We went back to what we thought we needed in the first place, which was Totara, because we were looking for something that was flexible and open source but with a business bolt on, to address our business needs.” – L&D Manager, Core Assets
This flexibility has enabled Core Assets to add custom elements to the learning management system, such as learning needs analysis, so that learners understand what kind of training is needed for their job role, and reflective learning logs, which are necessary to finish before a course is completed by a learner.
Before Core Assets started using Totara, all the company’s data was recorded on a spreadsheet with no definitive record of all the learning and development within the organisation. The L&D Manager has found that reporting within Totara has allowed Core Assets to manipulate the data and get more detailed information.
“Usage on an average week we get about 100 people accessing the system and using courses or booking on to classroom based courses.” L&D Manager, Core Assets
“Learning Pool** have actually been fantastic in terms of the support with the development of the learning management system and the course that they built for us. They’ve been a click away in terms of email support and at the end of a telephone whenever I’ve got a query.” – L&D Manager, Core Assets
