Kodak proves the effectiveness of staff training programmes with Lambda Solutions and Totara Learn

The Challenge

Kodak Alaris needed a centralised system to provide compliance training to their 3,000+ employees. This training included classes on workplace harassment, data security, and business conduct. When Debbie Wehrle first started at Kodak Alaris, she was training 3,100 employees alone, manually. “It was just me, trying to tap into HR Managers around the world - there were about 12 of them - trying to track the training that we were giving,” recalls Debbie.

At the time they were only conducting compliance training, but even that alone took a great deal of time to manage, which Debbie had to do on top of her other tasks as a Director of Training and Development. Debbie soon realised that she could find a good learning management system for far less than what Kodak Alaris was paying her to conduct manual training.

The Solution

Debbie began her research, and was immediately drawn to Totara's learning management system. “I liked Totara Learn because it gave the ability, in a global application, to really have my arms around all the learning and development needed for the employees of our company.” Debbie didn’t just want to assign and track training, she also wanted to be able to link learning paths, establish communication back and forth, and foster real discussions - all things that Totara Learn would allow her to do.

The next step was to find a good, reliable Totara Learn provider. Debbie created a spreadsheet of viable LMS vendors, along with her top criterion, and began conducting interviews. The three most important features Debbie was looking for was cost efficiency, customer service, and reporting.

“I interviewed Lambda as part of my research, and right off the bat, we had a wonderful conversation about my organisation’s needs, and what Lambda could do for us” recalls Debbie. “I just felt like I had found my new home, the right home - I knew it was Lambda.” Lambda offered Kodak Alaris a cloud based solution, which meant that updates were done and implemented automatically. “With Lambda’s open-source solution, updates are done and pushed out to us automatically - I don’t have an instance that I need to maintain with an entire IT organisation” says Debbie.

The Results

  • Efficient learning & training process: Totara Learn with Lambda has allowed Kodak Alaris to easily train their 3,100 employees across the globe. “It’s absolutely efficient and abbrieved to set up a course, and send it out to them,” says Debbie. “They get a notification that it’s assigned to them, when it is due, and another notification if it becomes overdue.”
  • Excellent support: “The customer service that I get from Lambda, along with the Help Documentation that’s available for Totara, allow me to learn on my own,” exclaims Debbie. “I’m just thrilled with the choice of Totara, and Lambda as my provider.”
  • Ability to prove her ROI: Debbie plans on making an investment in a way to prove the growth her company has seen as a result or training with Totara and Lambda, using the money that Totara Learn has saved her.
  • Additional funding: Debbie has been trying to get funding from the President of Kodak Alaris, for employee training, for the last few years. It wasn’t until he saw the cost savings, and efficiency of streamlined training that Lambda Solutions provided, that he agreed to provide the additional funding. “He is so excited that I have a workable system, that he is funding almost a million dollars in the next three years, on training for my company,” Debbie states. “He knows that I’ve got that safety net to be able to adequately distribute training for our employees.”
